Go for the Gold!

Licensure/Certification - National certification in phlebotomy is offered by multiple agencies, including the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA) and American Society of Clinical Pathologists

Most phlebotomy schools offers hands-on training provided by experts in the field of Phlebotomy. You need to make sure the school you choose is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical services by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science P.A.C.E program. You want to pick a school that is very knowledgeable, and have the expertise to fully train you for this profession.

The National Certification is optional and not required in some states, but many of the local employers in clinics, labs and hospitals have notified us that they are putting favor on Phlebotomist's with the National Certification over Phlebotomy Technicians without it.

What is "Phlebotomy" anyway?

Phlebotomy is the process of making a tiny incision or poke into the vein so that blood can be drawn for the purpose of being tested by a laboratory. It is associated with venipuncture, the practice of collecting venous blood samples, and bloodletting, the ancient medical practice. The collecting of blood is used for many purposes, one purpose is to do several different types of tests to tell a person how healthy they are and to find any problems a person may have. A person who practices Phlebotomy is termed a phlebotomist.

What is a Phlebotomist?

Phlebotomists are people who are specialized in the art of drawing blood from a live person or animal for useful analysis and diagnosis. Most states require phlebotomy personnel to be licensed or at least registered. To get your Certification in the United States you have to go through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. Phlebotomists also collect minute quantities of blood known as fingersticks for testing blood sugar.
